North Wales Fire and Rescue Service offers a Public Relations Apprenticeship within the fast-paced environment of its Corporate Communications department.
Following a 15 month programme, this apprentice role offers an opportunity to gain valuable first-hand experience of working in emergency services communications whilst gaining a highly regarded and accredited Level 4 Higher Apprenticeship qualification through the Public Relations and Communications Association (PRCA).
From crises media relations involving a major incident to designing an innovative campaign aimed at keeping vulnerable groups safe in the community, communicating for North Wales Fire and Rescue Service is both challenging and rewarding.
The Corporate Communications team delivers quality communications in the areas of media relations, public engagement and internal communication. All our communication activities must be meaningful and support the achievement of operational objectives, such as protecting our communities, keeping people safe from fire in their homes, and exploring what else we can do to help improve people’s lives by working in collaboration with others.
The apprentice role develops both reactive and proactive communications skills, directed at internal as well as external audiences, utilising traditional communications methods but with an increasing emphasis on digital engagement and the latest thinking on behavioural change.
Competencies and skills to be demonstrated:
Apprentices must be 18 to 24 years of age
Minimum of 3 A Levels or equivalent is desirable
GCSE A*- C in English and Welsh or equivalent
GCSE A* - C in Maths or equivalent
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Effective communicator at all levels
Skilled in Microsoft Office packages and experienced in social media and the ability to adapt to use a variety of online platforms
Creativity and flair
Organised and able to manage own time
Flexible and willing to learn
Strong attention to detail
Motivated and committed
A ‘self-starter’ – someone who will use their initiative, be energetic and make the most of the opportunity
Fluent in Welsh language to ALTE level 4 standard
Full clean driving license
