Camping gas warning after explosion at Holyhead

Posted

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service are reminding residents to take extra care if they use camping gas equipment during a power cut after an explosion damaged a house in Holyhead.

The emergency services were called to a house in Snowdon View Road Treaddur Bay at 2.22pm on Saturday the 10th of January.

The area had been subject to a power cut and a camping gas stove, which had been turned off, but had been left on the hob of an electric cooker which was switched on, exploded once power had been restored.

The property was empty at the time of the explosion and no one was hurt. However, considerable damage was caused to doors and windows.

Community Fire Safety Team Manager Brian Williams said; "Given the potential for power cuts  during the current stormy weather, we would remind anyone using camping gas equipment to make sure that it is switched off and safely stored when not in use and not to place gas equipment  on any electrical appliances."

Two fire appliances from Holyhead attended the scene.
