Partnership working to promote Road Safety

Posted

Staff from North Wales Fire and Rescue Services worked in partnership with Flintshire County Council, Clwyd Alyn Housing and Keep Wales Tidy to promote road safety as part of Seatbelt Awareness Week.

Staff attended Lôn Celyn, Connah's Quay on Saturday the 28th of February to promote road safety at a specially designed safety themed fun day.

Children and their parents were able to learn about road safety in an interactive way with an educational DVD from the road safety team - 'Revolution' which explained the importance of driving within the speed limit and showing the reality of the damage a road traffic collision can cause. Members of the team also recruited potential students for future courses.

Dave Roberts, Partnership Manager for Wrexham and Flintshire, said: "It was identified that there was a need for this event as several of the residents had raised concerns about local children playing on the road at the estate which could have resulted in a road traffic collision.

"We were glad to be part of the event as it enabled us to cover important topics
such as the green cross code, safe places to play, and keeping safe near roads. Not only that, the event enabled us to remind parents of some key safety tips and advice about fire safety in the home.

"Seatbelt Awareness Week is a great opportunity for everyone to remind themselves about key safety points. It's important for drivers to think about their own safety, but also that of other road users, and the pedestrians.

"This was a fantastic day and I was pleased to see the children engaging and learning new skills to stay safe on the streets."
