North Wales Fire and Rescue Service has announced that Chief Fire Officer Dawn Docx will retire from the Service following a distinguished career spanning 32 years across three Fire and Rescue Services.

Having served communities across Wales and England for more than three decades, CFO Docx has informed North Wales Fire and Rescue Authority of her decision to step down from the role of Chief Fire Officer, with retirement taking effect on 31 December 2026.  

Reflecting on the announcement, CFO Docx said:  

"After a great deal of reflection, I have decided that the time is right for me to retire. While this has not been an easy decision, I am looking forward to spending more time with my family and exploring what the next chapter may hold in public service. It has been a privilege to serve the communities of North Wales and to work alongside such dedicated and professional colleagues.  

Throughout my career, I have been inspired by the commitment shown by firefighters, control staff, corporate staff, volunteers, Fire Authority Members, the Welsh Government and our many partners. Together, we have faced challenges, embraced opportunities, and remained focused on keeping our communities safe. The response to the wildfire and spate conditions during this summer have made me immensely proud of what we achieved together."  

Chair of North Wales Fire and Rescue Authority, Cllr. Dylan Rees said:  

"On behalf of the Fire and Rescue Authority, I would like to thank CFO Docx for her commitment, leadership and service. Her contribution to North Wales Fire and Rescue Service and the wider fire and rescue sector has been significant, and she leaves a strong foundation on which the Service can continue to build.

The Chief Fire Officer will remain in post until 31 December 2026 ensuring continuity of leadership and supporting a smooth transition.  

North Wales Fire and Rescue Authority will shortly begin the process of recruiting a successor. Further details regarding the recruitment process will be made available in due course.
