Reminder to ‘Get, Out, Stay out and Call us out!’ following fire in Trefnant

A Senior Fire Officer is reminding residents of the importance of evacuating quickly and not returning into your home in the event of a fire after a young woman escaped unharmed from a serious fire in her Trefnant home yesterday.

Crews from Denbigh, Ruthin and Rhyl were called to the property at Ffordd Cae Canol, Trefnant, near Denbigh at 16.51 hrs yesterday afternoon.

The fire caused substantial damage to the property and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Justin Evans, Head of Community Safety for North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, said: “The best advice we can give to residents confronted with a fire in their home is to get out, stay out and call us out – do not try and tackle the fire yourself.

“I feel it’s important to highlight how the actions of residents upon discovering a fire can mean the difference between life and death – once she was alerted to the fire, this woman left the property immediately and called 999. Although this was a serious fire, she was able to escape unharmed.

“Our advice is to be as prepared as possible in the event of fire, by ensuring that working smoke alarms are fitted on every floor of your home to give you an early warning of fire and that you have clear escape routes to enable you and your family to exit your home as quickly as possible.”
