What we do

What we do

Emergency response

We respond to emergencies across North Wales – rescuing people, saving lives and protecting homes, businesses and communities.

Annually we attend around 3,200 fires, 500 road traffic collisions and 500 other emergency incidents.

Our firefighters respond from 44 fire stations across North Wales. In total we have 53 fire engines. Some stations have two fire engines, while others have specialist vehicles depending on local risk.

Prevention

We work closely with communities to help prevent emergencies. This includes:

  • conducting Safe and Well Checks for vulnerable people.
  • working with schools and young people.
  • participating in community safety campaigns and partnerships.

Protection

We help businesses stay safe and comply with fire safety laws. Our teams:

  • carry out fire safety inspections.
  • provide advice and guidance.
  • work with partners to reduce risk in high-risk buildings.

Control

When you call 999 or 112 and ask for the fire and rescue service, you will speak to our control room staff based at the Joint Communications Centre in St Asaph. They:

  • handle emergency calls
  • dispatch firefighters and specialist equipment immediately across North Wales as needed.
  • provide life-saving advice to callers

This joint facility, shared with North Wales Police, helps improve coordination and response to emergencies.
